According to Sausalito residents Shahid and Sana Paracha, “If people understand what halal is, they will eat halal, nothing else.”
The couple opened BBQ ‘n’ Curry House in Sausalito’s Gateway Shopping Center this past November. The restaurant serves zabiha halal meats, which are raised naturally on local farms and humanely hand slaughtered.
The restaurant features Indian and Pakistani cuisine inspired by Shahid’s mother’s Indian recipes with Shahid’s tweaks and addition of Pakistani items.
The Parachas owned Tasty Curry with two locations in San Francisco. Besides goat dishes on weekends, there are also celebratory dishes from major cities available on the menu at $12.99 each, such as special chicken karahi, white and dark meat simmered in a wok with tomatoes and hot peppers served with a house-made yogurt, garlic and cilantro sauce.
“We’re really friendly here, sit back, have tea with us and relax,” says Shahid Paracha, who shares recipes and techniques online as the Bollywood Curryman on YouTube. BBQ ‘n’ Curry House is open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and is at 160 H Donahue St. in Sausalito. Call 289-0786 or go towww.bbqncurryhouse.com.
