Top officials confirmed for Dubai’s World Islamic Economic Forum

wief-logoA total of nine heads of state, 12 ministers, four central bank governors, and about 2,000 delegates from more than 100 countries have started to arrive in Dubai for the 10th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF).

Heads of government and heads of state attending the event from October 28-30 include Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia; Nursultan Äbishuly Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan; Abdul Hamid, President of Bangladesh; Ray Kala Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister of Timor Leste; Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg; Danny Faure, Vice President of Seychelles; Azim Ibrahim, the Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan; and Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali, President of Islamic Development Bank.

The Forum is organised by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the WIEF Foundation at the Madinat Jumeirah.

Tun Musa Hitam, chairman of the WIEF Foundation, said: “The 10th World Islamic Economic Forum in Dubai will feature three days of thought-provoking discussions and plenary sessions led by some of the top luminaries from the global economic arena.

“Participants in the Forum will have a unique opportunity to listen to expert speakers from a wide range of sectors, who will be involved in high level exchange of ideas while sharing their first-hand experiences with international colleagues on the changing dynamics in global business today.”

Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, chairman of Dubai Chamber added: “The engagement with high-level speakers from across the world promises lively and interesting debate and an exceptional Forum that will contribute to the transformation of the global economy through generation of new ideas and promotion of business collaboration.”

Also prominent on the list of confirmed speakers is Massoud Ahmed, director, Middle East and Central Asia Department, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Mahmoud Mohieddin, corporate secretary and World Bank president’s special envoy on Millennium Development Goals and a senior representative from Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

Other speakers at the Forum include Dr Adnan Chilwan, CEO, Dubai Islamic Bank, and Tirad Mahmoud, CEO, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank.

A statement said the Forum is the largest international gathering of heads of government, economic experts and stakeholders to share experiences and knowledge about the Islamic economy since its launch in 2004.
