The Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has shortened the halal certification process from 30 to 15 days with Ramadan approaching.
Its director-general, Datuk Othman Mustapha said they had notified hotel and restaurant associations about this three months ago to facilitate “buka puasa” (breaking fast or iftar) dinners.
“Processing the applications for halal certification from hotels or restaurants is being expedited. They have been given ample time to apply. Do not wait until a week before Ramadan to apply.”
He told reporters this after launching the “Salam Kasih Ramadan” program in Putrajaya today.
Organised by Islamic Aid and Salamfm, Jakim will visit five welfare homes in the states of Selangor and Perak to bring cheer to orphans throughout the fasting month.
