Malaysia, seen as the leading Islamic Finance and Halal hub will embark on the digitalization of its Islamic administration under its Religious Ministry.
Its Minister, Dr. Mujahid Yusof stated that the first step is to establish a committee from various expertise including those from Islamic and technology background that will formulate the digitalization process. Amongst the parties that have been approached are Malaysia’s leading telco – Telekom Malaysia, Malaysia’s Shari’ah compliant payment gateway – PayHalal and the world’s leading Shari’ah Research entity – ISRA (International Shari’ah Research Academy in Islamic Finance).
The committee is said to be announced later this year.
Dr. Mujahid also said that the digitalization process will involve all agencies under his Ministry and which managed Islamic matters including Hajj and Zakat.
He also hoped that the adoption of technology will be welcomed by all stakeholders.
