The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will soon be the first country in the Middle East to regulate Halal certification and logos in year 2014. The Halal regulation will be for food items that claim to be halal.
The announcement was made by a senior official from theEmirates Standardisation and Metrology Authority (Esma). It is understood that the halal regulation will also include halal certification for cosmetics and perfumes as well as clothes and accessories .
The Halal regulation initiative is part of the vision outlined by UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, placing UAE as the leading halal economy.
